History file for !AnsiEdit v2.30 Version 1.00 (16-Aug-1992) Initial alpha test development release. Version 1.01 (30-Aug-1992) Alt & C now prompts the user if the screen has been modified. Will ignore attempts to load directories from the desktop. The draw option should now be more reliable. Some new options are now available. (See above) '!Help' file improved. (ie made helpful) New program and file info boxes. Version 1.02 (06-Sep-1992) The draw option improved again. !Help file updated. No longer enters editor when an info box clicked on. Added Alter option (Alt + A). Box option written. Delete option written. Erase option written. Filled option written. Pattern option written. Added Pattern toggle (Alt + U) Draw and wimp routines now seperate library files to reduce size of editor. Version 1.03 (13-Sep-1992) Alter option (Alt + A). Paint option written. Wash option written. When moving & coping now allows screen swapping. When typing key press detection improved. Improved colour selection. Cursor now moves more slowly. Colours can now be selected by clicking on them with the mouse. Screens can be saved as pure ascii text, a sprite or a screen. File info box now shows the file size when a file is loaded from an archive. Should handle files trying to exceed the table boundaries. Version 1.04 (20-Sep-1992) Draw routines rewritten - Should be better(?) Bug fixed in save routine. Occasionally exceeded table size. Move now clears the correct block when moving between screens. Mode changed from 123 to 60 (Clashed with another program). Version 1.05 (27-Sep-1992) Hopefully cured draw bug when cursor position wasn't updated correctly. Sprites now handle errors correctly. New colour option now selects the correct new colour. Sometimes gave a bold white background colour. Function keys now move more slowly. While loading a dragged or double-clicked file displays the Ansi window on the screen. Paint and colour wash options altered. Hopefully now works correctly (?). Transparent key now moves more slowly. Insertion of text now works correctly. Correctly displays keys according to CAPS LOCK status. See !Help for more details. Various anoyances changed. Version 1.06 (11-Oct-1992) Bug where 'Line type 3' got the down line wrong should now be fixed. Bug reported where the 'Ansi' filetype did not appear to be known. This should now be cured. Complaint about the 'CTRL Z' (CHR$(26)) appearing at the end of a file. There is now a prompt for this (See !Help). Can now select line type by pointing with mouse. Various changes to the appearance. Eg were possible only redisplays the changed part of the screen for deletion and insertion of lines. Now when selecting option with the mouse the pointer should be over the top of your choice. Now resets back to the system font correctly. Version 1.07 (25-Oct-1992) Bug where 'CAPS LOCK' wasn't always detected as been on or off as now been fixed. Swap screen shouldn't now clear the entire screen first. Paint and wash now update the screen as the routine is carried out. This means no more waiting for the screen to be redisplayed in its updated form. The problem with the function keys 'f1' to 'f8' has hopefully been cured. The draw bug where sometimes the wrong box piece was selected is now hopefully cured. Pattern mode now implemented when draw mode is also switched on. Version 1.08 (27-Dec-1992) Use of the Mouse has now been greatly improved. Save option has been improved and now produces an even more compact file. The '!AnsiEdit' sprite icon changed. The '!AnsiEdit' palette changed. The displayer and editor had a different dull yellow. Problems with tab keys hopefully cured. The proper User Guide now greatly improved. Quit and clear now work properly from the desktop. Major upgrading of a lot of routines. Now numeric variables are held as integers (%) so may help increase the speed. The saved files hopefully are a bit more compressed than before. Now hopefully runs in the desktop MODE. This means if earlier versions went wrong on your monitor they will hopefully now work with '!AnsiEdit'. Now uses SYS commands to gain information about files so hopefully works equally well on both RISC OS 2 & 3. Washing and painting of areas now allowed. A new file format for Archimedes use and not PC's has been added 'BBC Font'. Control characters now properly appear between the [?]. Probably lots of other changes that I have forgotten about. Version 1.09 (17-Jan-1993) Error detection when saving sprites has been improved. Now Beta test version. Version 1.09b (28-Feb-1993) Removed 'AnsiScrap$Dir' from '!Boot' file. Version 2.00 (16-May-1993) When loading files kept erroring with insufficent memory. Because of this re-implemented the old 'ADFSCalls' routines. A menu system similar to the desktops has been implememted. Palette and font can now be changed. No 3 letter code needed when saving and loading 'BBC Font' files. Multiple copies of the same block can now be used. More flexible desktop front-end. Full screen editing for 80 x 32 size screens. More compacted ANSI screens saved. Variable size ANSI screens can be saved up to 32 lines. Now uses SYS numbers instead of strings so maybe slightly faster. Has a multi-tasking clear screen feature from the desktop. Has a multi-tasking print screen feature from the desktop. Allows printing of the screen from the editor. Hot-keys added for entering the desktop. Faster file loading, no longer a file size limit, only limit is available memory. Now possible to save files from the desktop. Now uses my 'Input' routine instead of BASICs INPUT. This means more flexibility when entering text such as filenames. Now prompts before loading a file if the current file has been modified. Help system has been implemented (ALT & H). (Its taken long enough I know). Hourglass appears with more options while waiting. Bold background as long as file is not saved as a ANSI screen. Changing of screen MODEs within the editor. (Alt & Y) Entering of '*' commands from within the editor. (F12) Answering 'Y' or 'N' to questions using the mouse buttons. Blocks can be temporarily positioned before you have to place the block permanently. Probably lots of other changes that I have forgotten about. Version 2.01 (23-May-1993) Some minor changes. Now stated as 'Freeware' and NOT 'Public Domain'. Version 2.02 (30-May-1993) BBC Font and Ansi files can now be saved as scrambled and backwards files. Cleared and printing can now only clear or print one screen at a time. Bug fixed in the menu system. Version 2.03 (06-Jun-1993) Now includes the single tasking editor as well. Version 2.04 (20-Jun-1993) Bug fixed when saving with the archived option switched on ('Yes' in icon box). Various other problems fixed. Version 2.10 (15-Aug-1993) The saving of files as scrambled and backwards have been removed as options. The way a file is saved is now user definable. A collection of such files are provided (such as scrambled and backwards). Due to the complete rewrite of Ansi and BBC Font save routines they possibly produce a slightly smaller file (or not as the case may be). The 'Reverse' and 'Pause' options have now been added. Now the front-end, editor and menu system have been made 'MessageTrans' friendly. Uses proper 'Radio' / 'Option' boxes instead of 'Yes' / 'No's. Added proper error messages and error numbers to the editors Menu System. The loading of 'Font' and 'Palette' files via the desktop has been changed. The desktop now uses 3d icons. The 'Load Details' window has now been changed to 'Load Resources'. The font and palette which are initially loaded can now be changed. Some annoying bugs have now been fixed involving the cursor keys for when in 'Draw' mode. A bug with loading of just fonts has hopefully been finally fixed!!!!!!! Version 2.20 (28-Nov-1993) If a file is bigger than the screen then once loaded will redisplay the contents of the editors screen tables. Should now correctly display text files. Allows transparency when moving and copying blocks. After selecting an area automatically highlights it. Bug fixed involving greyed out sub-menu entries. (This bug may possibly have never happened with earlier versions of the editor, although would have existed). Fixed menu system bug where selecting on the menus title bar caused the editor to exit with an error. Version 2.20 (28-Nov-1993) (Continued) Can't turn pattern mode on from the desktop if no pattern selected. If pattern mode is saved as on and the options loaded with no selected pattern then pattern mode is turned off again. Should now be compatible with the 'MouseOpt' module for replacing the mouse with the cursor keys. Module needs to be loaded. Default background bug fixed. Now allows the editors options to be loaded, saved deleted and reset to there defaults from the editor as well as the desktop front-end. 'CLS Prompt' and 'Hourglass' now configurable from editor. 'Paint' and 'Wash' now redisplay control panel. Draw and insert when toggled from menus now correctly update the control panel. Draw and insert now correctly marked with a 'x' on the menus. Wash and paint should no longer get 'stuck'. Possible speed increase when a selected area is highlighted. Wash area and paint area should now be faster, only the occupied characters are now dealt with, also now prompts before washing or painting the screen. Mouse use when using block commands is now configurable. Can now automatically update selected blocks if the block is changed. (Configurable for if the old way was prefered). If like me you get annoyed about the constant prompting when doing commands, well Major and Minor warnings can now be toggled on and off. The '*FX 4' option has been removed. If adjust clicked over icon then will display the 'Preferences' window. Possible to turn cursor co-ordinates on and off. Global colour change can now prompt before changing colours. All block command should now leave the block highlighted if it was highlighted prior to the command been executed. Solid / Transparent boxes now in 'Shapes' sub-menu. User guide greatly updated and improved. Can now delete saved option files. All 'Document' files now provided as 1stWord+ and Text files. The 'TAB' keys should now work properly. (Its taken long enough I know). It should now be possible to select the top and bottom rows of the screen as a block with the mouse. Adjust from the 'Control Panel' menu now displays characters on the screen correctly. Probably lots of other changes I have forgotten about. ************************************************************ PLEASE NOTE All configurable options are set so they operate according to how old versions of the options worked. Eg by default all warnings will still appear. It is up to the user to change them if required. Before changing any options it is strongly advised that the user guide is carefully read to avoid any disastrious results occuring. ************************************************************ Version 2.25 (10-Apr-1994) Bug fixed where Ctrl & Right cursor didn't move properly. Bug fixed where when 'Major' and 'Minor' warnings where turned off, they would cause the move block option to incorrectly state the block was already deleted. If the 'Default Background' colour is changed it will now be saved correctly. (See 'UserGuide' for more information) All windows can now be opended by clicking on the menu options, and all windows now have a Back and Close icon. Now, even if a resource is missing, for example 'Palette', the editor should still be loaded. (See 'UserGuide' for more information) Probably other changes I have forgotten about. Version 2.30 (02-Oct-1994) Template file changed. Due to a bug in the WindowManager which caused the program to exit with an internal address exception error, the Quit window had to be changed, I changed the other windows to keep them all the same. The Bug work round has been removed. Some of the editors menus didn't treat the adjust buttons / keys correctly, this has been corrected. The 'Pattern' sub-menu option on the main menu is now shaded out unless a area has been selected first, this cured a bug regarding the 'Pattern' menu when all the options where shaded out. Hopefully the desktop front-end is more compliant with the Acorn Risc OS standards. A bug was discovered in the Menusystem when selecting sub- menus, hopefully this has been cured. The 'Display' option icon has been moved from the 'Preferences' window to the 'Save Details' window. The 'Preferences' window is no longer available as a sub- window, you must click the adjust button on the icon or the click the option to display the window. Each window now has 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons, changes only take place when 'OK' has been clicked on. Version 2.30 (02-Oct-1994) (Continued) Most windows no longer have 'Close' icons, you should click on cancel to close a window and ignore the option changes. Clicking the editor, Save, Load, Delete or Default icons will close all the Preferences windows that are open. A new 'Load Details' window has been added. Some of the options have also been moved around from the various windows. Now the cursor position can be displayed while selecting an area. 'Hourglass' has been given the keyboard short-cut Ctrl & Alt & Shift & H. 'CLS Prompt' has been given the keyboard short-cut Ctrl & Alt & Shift & C. Wash block, Paint block and Global colour change can all now be aborted by pressing ESCape. Should now be able to paint areas properley. Using 'Default Background's and clearing screens should now work properly together. Each screen can now have its own independent Foreground, Background and Default Background colours. Foreground, Background and Default Background now keeps there colours even when you exit to the desktop. A few extra example files have been added. Delete Block now gives the right message. Print LF option added. I have a new printer and it started adding a return when printting from the editor but not from any other application. Added 'Dull Template' and 'Colour Template' icons in the preferences window to allow the toggle of dull and colourful template files. Updated the 'UserGuide', hopefully accurate but no guarantees.
